ZOE GRAHAM
new single - Evilin - out 24 April 2024
Glaswegian alternative indie-pop artist Zoe Graham shares new single ‘Evilin’ - a brass-backed journey of confusion created by a person who’s no good for you.
Guitars curdle with plush synths and tautly machined drums, as Zoe draws influence from Kate Bush (she shares a knack for catch-you-off-guard choruses with the ‘80s icon), St Vincent (Daddy’s Home was a regular backing sound during writing sessions), and Beck (“he’s very free as a songwriter; everything’s thought through, but it’s not painstaking”). She leans on David Bowie’s advice not to stay grounded in your deep pool of ideas, but rather to push up and off, and let your toes just brush the floor from time to time.
“Evilin is a battle cry” says Zoe. “It reads like a reenactment of how it feels to be purposely confused. Evilin is a channeller of emotional exhaustion. Someone you feel like you depend on and feel scared of all at once. Someone you will put before yourself, and not in a fun way. She isn’t good for you, but there’s something about her you wish you could be more of yourself, a determined independence, relentlessness but a lack of empathy.”
Co-produced by Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes, Vok), mixed by Matt Glasbey (Alt-J, Bloc Party, Thala) and mastered by Katie Tavini (Arlo Parks, Los Bitchos, Sega Bodega).
Catch Zoe at Future Echoes (Sweden), Wide Days (Scotland) + The Great Escape (England) this Spring.

ABOUT ZOE GRAHAM
Zoe Graham writes songs that sound like doing push-ups on the moon: heavy, but with an unmistakably light touch. Hers is a velvet voice, occasionally back-brushed.
Influenced by artists including St Vincent, Kate Bush and Beck, her folkish beginnings sing through in a penchant for story-led songwriting, and a vocal range that spans the delicate and disaster-struck.
She has previously shared stages with artists including Jenny Hval, Lo Moon, Kawala, Kate Nash, Rae Morris, Fatherson & Hamish Hawk - played festivals such as TRNSMT, Belladrum, Stag & Dagger, Celtic Connections and Tenement Trail. In addition to performing live on national TV from TRSNMT Festival, BBC Quay Sessions with Jake Bugg and on BBC Scotland's new music show TUNE.
Her two previous EPs have featured on editorial DSP playlists including Spotify’s New Music Friday, Fresh Finds and Scotify as well as Deezer’s Hot New UK. They've also been heavily supported by BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Scotland (including a 2020 BBC Introducing Scotland live session), and Amazing Radio. 2024 sees Zoe ready to hit the road again, with new music in tow.
A love for sampling retro vinyl records as a songwriting tool, recently earned her a prestigious commission to compose the score for Visit Scotland’s current global ad campaign. The track features field-recorded sounds collected across Scotland, re-sampled, manipulated and weaved together to create a unique and distinctive piece of music.
